# Perplexity Operator

Shanone's Perplexity Operator integration gives your agent 4 tools for Perplexity's more advanced Sonar capabilities — step-by-step reasoning, deep multi-source research, and multi-turn conversation, alongside standard search. It uses the same API key as the base Perplexity integration but exposes a richer, model-specific toolset.

## Getting Started

    Generate a key from the [Perplexity API settings page](https://www.perplexity.ai/settings/api).

    Go to **Integrations** in the Shanone dashboard, select Perplexity, and paste in the key (`pplx-...`).

  <Step title="Retry your request">
    Once saved, `shanone_execute_tool` calls for `perplexity_*` tools will succeed.

## Available Tools

Shanone provides **4 tools** for Perplexity Operator, organized into these categories:

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="perplexity_deep_research takes a very long time or times out">
    Deep research intentionally runs exhaustive multi-source searches and can take several minutes for broad topics — narrow the query or increase your client-side timeout rather than assuming failure.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="search_domain_filter doesn't seem to restrict results">
    The filter accepts a maximum of 3 domains and only applies to `perplexity_sonar_search` and `perplexity_reasoning` — check `shanone_get_tool_schema` to confirm the exact array format expected.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="perplexity_chat loses context from earlier turns">
    Pass the full `messages` array (including prior assistant turns) on every call — the tool doesn't persist conversation state between separate `shanone_execute_tool` calls.
