# Hacker News

Shanone's Hacker News integration gives your agent 7 tools for browsing every story feed Hacker News offers and drilling into a specific story's comments — all against the free, public Hacker News API, so there's nothing to authenticate.

## Getting Started

## Available Tools

Shanone provides **7 tools** for Hacker News, organized into these categories:

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="Story counts are lower than the count parameter I passed">
    `count` is capped at 30 per call, and any item that fails to load (deleted, or a transient API error) is silently skipped rather than retried — expect slightly fewer results than requested on a flaky connection.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="hackernews_get_story returns comments but some are missing text">
    Deleted or flagged comments are filtered out entirely, and comment text is truncated at 500 characters — request the story again with a smaller `max_comments` if you want to reduce noise.

  <Accordion title="A story's url field is empty">
    Ask HN and some other self-post story types don't have an external URL — use the `hn_url` (or `text` field for Ask HN posts) instead of assuming every story links out.
