# Discord

Shanone's Discord integration gives your agent 182 tools covering nearly all of the Discord API: messages, channels, threads, roles, members, moderation, voice, scheduled events, soundboards, stickers, webhooks, and guild administration.

## Getting Started

    Ask your agent to do something with Discord (e.g. "post a message to #general"), or connect proactively from **Integrations** in the Shanone dashboard. Either way, you'll get a `connect_link` to authorize Shanone's Discord app for your server.

    Approve Discord's OAuth consent screen, selecting the server (guild) you want Shanone to manage.

    Once connected, `shanone_execute_tool` calls for `discord_*` tools will succeed.

<Note>
  Most write operations (posting messages, moderation, role management) require Shanone's bot to have the relevant permissions in your server — if a tool that should work returns a permissions error, check the bot's role permissions in Discord's Server Settings.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="discord_send_message or moderation tools fail with a Missing Permissions error">
    Discord permissions are role-based and hierarchical — Shanone's bot role needs the specific permission (e.g. `Send Messages`, `Ban Members`) *and* must be positioned above the target role/member in the server's role list for moderation actions.

  <Accordion title="discord_search_messages returns limited or no results">
    Discord's native search API only indexes messages in channels the bot can see and has limited support for complex queries — for exhaustive history, paginate `discord_get_channel_messages` instead.

  <Accordion title="Voice state or soundboard tools return no effect">
    Most voice-related write operations require the bot to already be connected to a voice channel in that guild; check `discord_get_current_user_voice_state` first before modifying voice state or triggering soundboard sounds.

  <Accordion title="discord_create_scheduled_event fails with a validation error">
    External-location events (`entity_type: EXTERNAL`) require both `scheduled_end_time` and an `entity_metadata.location` — voice/stage events don't need those fields but do need a valid `channel_id`.
